HP 2509m 25-Inch Diagonal Full HD LCD Monitor (Black) Review


Perhaps I am not a videophile or audiophile. I give this five stars because if you’re looking at it with price vs. display only comparison. This is a great find. For the size that it is the price is great. The ambient light adjustment sensor is not as frugal as I was hoping, but I probably just need to learn how to properly adjust the settings on this monitor. As far as everything else goes, the color is vibrant and rich. I love watching movies on this and playing games now. Crysis looks so sexy with this monitor I have to say, but maybe I haven’t seen enough monitors. The stores that usually have nice monitors or tv always do a terrible job at showing their performance level in the way they’re displayed. But I’ve been fond of HP, because they never have tried to screw me over in price, and their quality has gone up a lot over the years. If you’re saying hey what about an apple cinema display, think of it this way, “You’re just paying for the brand because you are one of the pompous populous that thinks a right click is obsolete, display port should be more used than hdmi, and grey is taking over the future of colorscemes”. Look don’t be biased, this monitor is what is. Take it for what it is. I certainly did not buy it for the speakers, or for a replacement televison. I bought it simply as a replacement monitor.

Second HP Monitor I’ve bought, Still great – Samuel Switzer –
This is my second HP monitor of the same series, and I love them both. They have great contrast and color depth for their price, no complaints here!

I love the size, clarity, and sharp images of this HP monitor. I got it two months ago. Only one downside: I don’t like the reflective finish–i.e. it can have an annoying glare if there is a light source behind you while working at the computer. Overall, a great monitor!

This monitor is fantastic. Don’t listen to the bad reviews talking about the glossy finish. They picked their monitor out in an amateurish way and now they’re paying for it.

The glossy finish is designed to give you a crisper image. If you work in an area where there is a lot of light behind you when you’re working (like a window behind you or something) you shouldn’t get a glossy monitor. To that effect, this monitor has a better picture than any matte finish monitor ever will.

This is easily the best monitor I use on a daily basis, even when paired against a comparable 1080p Viewsonic. As a software developer, I look at several monitors all day long. This thing is a treat for my tired eyes.

Hands down, this is the best monitor I’ve ever used.

HP 2709m 27-Inch Diagonal Full HD LCD Monitor (Black) Review


The HP 2709m is a great monitor for this price.

I bought this monitor to replace a 21″ Hitachi CM801U CRT that was the only surviving component from my old Windows NT computer from the 1990s. My current computer is three years old and runs Windows XP. I mainly use it for writing code, writing documents, and looking at stuff on the Internet that is largely text. I don’t play games, so I definitely don’t have the same concerns that a gamer would.

If my eyes were better (younger), I’d have probably bought a smaller monitor, but I appreciate how this monitor can display text using a fairly large font and still fit a lot of lines of text on the screen. However, the resolution on this monitor might not be fine enough for people with decent eyesight. If you’re considering buying this monitor, find a store that has one actually hooked up to a computer and see for yourself how it does in areas that are important to you.

When I looked at this monitor in the store, I noticed a small hint of color around some small black text on a white background, especially the letter “t”. But I haven’t seen this on the monitor I actually bought. And there are no dead or stuck pixels.

Setup was quick and easy. I just took the monitor out of the box, unwrapped it, stood it upright, plugged it in using the DVI cable (included), and then powered it and my computer up. I didn’t have to download any exotic drivers, even for my old computer.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the monitor’s default brightness setting (90 out of 100) is way too high. I adjusted it down to 30 on my monitor. I’ve made no other adjustments, and I’m happy with how things look so far.

The DVI cable included with the monitor is a little over 5′ long. I mention this only because the sales guy at Fry’s thought it was 3′, so I bought a 6′ cable, which it turned out I didn’t need.

I’m giving this monitor four stars only because I recognize it’s not the perfect monitor. But I’m too cheap to pay for the perfect monitor, and the perfect monitor’s higher resolution (2560×1600) would just be wasted on me anyway, and I’d probably also have to upgrade my computer’s graphics card.

I have had several HP Monitors over the years this is my first 1080i we watch HD from our Comcast HD box through the HDMI port also my computers DVI hooked up I can shop watch broadban movies now the Comcast has there Cisco Docsiss 3.0 high speed modems what ever I choose to do my HP 2709M Monitor gets the job done with breath takeing colors it even has it’s own speakers built in. Iam looking foward to buying a larger TV but, for now my room is semi hi-tech. Thanks HP keep up the good work.

so far, decent quality… but resolution is too low for the size – Jarret Franklin –
A little pricy, but hopefully, better built and more reliable than others at this size. Only time will tell. Also, for the price I would have liked to see a higher top resolution than 1920 x 1080. Again, at this size, that resolution is not that great for an LCD. I probably would have been just as happy with this resolution in a 24″ or a 25″ considering the huge difference in price.

Good Monitor – James Barnett –
Good PC Monitor and good price. The packaging was poor. The instructions for setup are buried in the monitor. It comes with all appropriate cables and software. Ignore the data related to buying a cable. You do not need it.

Fantastic! – T-Mac –
Just arrived today – no dead pixels and the default configuration produces fantastic colors/depth. Went from 17 inches to 25 inches – it all feels a little surreal right now but I’m loving it! Digital Blasphemy desktop art [...] looks spectacular on this monitor. I do tech work that involves a lot of open windows…I love how I can have to large windows open side by side. Sweet.

Yes, the screen is highly reflective. I can occasionally see what is behind me but honestly the increased vividness of the colors is totally worth it. Most times I can only see what’s on the screen anyway.
